Empowering Fearless Performance

To free the voice is to free the person
— Kristin Linklater

Linklater Voice at The Singer’s Theatre offers voice training for actors who want to develop greater freedom, presence, clarity, and emotional connection in performance. Taught by Amanda Brunk, Designated Linklater Teacher, PAVA-Recognized Vocologist, and voice educator, this work supports actors in discovering a more open, responsive, and expressive voice.

Rooted in the renowned Linklater Voice method, this training helps performers release unnecessary tension, connect breath to impulse, strengthen vocal awareness, and bring more truth to text and character. Rather than forcing the voice to sound a certain way, Linklater work encourages actors to uncover the natural voice and use it with greater ease, range, and authenticity.

A strong speaking voice is essential for powerful storytelling. Whether preparing for theatre, auditions, public speaking, monologue work, post-secondary training, or professional performance, Linklater Voice training gives actors practical tools to connect body, breath, voice, language, and emotion.

Amanda brings a rare combination of technical knowledge, science-informed pedagogy, and deep care for the developing performer. Through workshops, masterclasses, and individual coaching, actors are encouraged to build confidence, expand vocal possibility, and communicate with greater honesty and impact.

Amanda and the Linklater Part 1 workshop helped me break through my vocal traumas and find freedom in my voice and breath in a way that I haven’t felt for years! And the personal growth made through this workshop due to both its collaborative nature and focus on communal introspection were invaluable. I’m eternally grateful.

Freeing the natural voice

This ground-breaking method was developed by Kristin Linklater to provide actors with the tools to explore freedom and authenticity within human vocal expression. It is taught in top theatre schools and conservatories around the world and is considered one of the most effective and trusted voice methods for actors to date. “The voice runs on emotion and free breath”. Freeing your natural “belt”

As a singing voice specialist and vocologist, Amanda is unceasingly curious about how “the work” can influence the freedom of the singing voice. This is especially exciting when working in contemporary commercial music and vocal styles. Whether you identify as a singer-actor or an actor-singer, this progression can be adapted for your experience.

This was a game changer. I went into it with an open heart and mind, hoping to gain some knowledge for my teaching practice and deepening my connection to my own voice. I left with a renewed hope that I can find vocal freedom and thus a freer artistic expression.
I’ve struggled for years with various migrating muscle tensions and mild MTD, so my desires always seemed to be foiled by my own patterns and thoughts. Over two days of meticulously working through the progressions together, I experienced a taste of what was possible if I continued down this path. Part of the success here is in working together, in a group. The human connection, vulnerability, observations, vibrations with each other are immensely important, especially after so many years of slugging it out alone or with various specialists. There is power in community and teamwork.
