ABOUT THE SINGERS THEATRE
VOICE AND PERFORMANCE Training for Emerging Artists
in Kitchener-Waterloo
The Singer’s Theatre is an inclusive training ground for young performers, emerging artists, and developing theatre-makers who are ready to grow through meaningful, high-quality performance experience.
Based in Kitchener-Waterloo, The Singer’s Theatre has spent more than two decades helping singers, actors, designers, technicians, and creative artists build confidence, strengthen their craft, and experience the power of music theatre in a supportive, professional-calibre environment.
Our programs are designed for students and performers who want more than a class, camp, or workshop. They are designed for artists who want to understand what it means to rehearse, collaborate, perform, and create with purpose.
At the heart of The Singer’s Theatre is a belief that strong training should be both challenging and encouraging. We ask artists to work with focus, discipline, and courage, while giving them the mentorship, tools, and safe creative space they need to take artistic risks. Whether a student is stepping on stage for the first time or preparing for professional-level training, our goal is to help them discover what they are capable of.
What Makes The Singer’s Theatre Different?
The Singer’s Theatre began with a clear purpose: to create meaningful, professional-calibre training opportunities for young and emerging artists. That remains central to who we are.
Through our Junior and Senior Intensives, we support the next generation of singers, actors, designers, technicians, and theatre-makers. Through The Voice Studio, Linklater Voice training, workshops, masterclasses, and private coaching, we also support performers who are looking to strengthen their voice, deepen their craft, prepare for performance, or continue growing as artists.
This allows The Singer’s Theatre to be both a home for emerging talent and a place where dedicated performers can return to the work of voice, story, and artistic development at different stages of their creative lives.
The Singer’s Theatre is not built around one kind of performer, one kind of voice, or one narrow definition of success. We believe in developing the whole artist.
Our work brings together voice, acting, movement, stagecraft, design, ensemble-building, and performance discipline. Students are encouraged to understand not only how to sing a song, but how to tell a story. Not only how to perform a role, but how to contribute to a production. Not only how to stand out, but how to listen, respond, collaborate, and support the work around them.
That is what makes music theatre training at The Singer’s Theatre so valuable. It is immersive, practical, personal, and rooted in real theatre-making.
Professional Standards in a Supportive Environment
The Singer’s Theatre was created to give young performers access to a level of music theatre training that reflects the pace, expectations, and artistic standards of professional rehearsal rooms.
Our Senior Intensive gives serious singer-actors the opportunity to experience the full journey of a production, from early rehearsal to final performance. Students work alongside experienced theatre professionals while receiving mentorship in vocal technique, acting, movement, stagecraft, and the rehearsal process.
This professional model matters. It teaches young artists how to prepare, how to collaborate, how to take direction, how to care for their voice, and how to bring consistency and emotional truth to their work. It also gives them the experience of being part of something larger than themselves: a full ensemble, a full production, and a shared creative goal.
Training Rooted in Voice, Story, and Science
The Singer’s Theatre has a distinct foundation in vocal training, contemporary voice technique, and science-informed pedagogy. That means our approach is not about forcing young artists into a single sound or style. It is about helping them understand their own instrument, build healthy habits, and develop the freedom to communicate honestly through song and performance.
Through The Voice Studio, Linklater Voice work, private lessons, workshops, masterclasses, Junior Intensive, and Senior Intensive programs, students and performers can explore different levels of training depending on their age, experience, and goals.
For some, The Singer’s Theatre is the first place they discover the joy of performing. For others, it becomes an important stepping stone toward post-secondary training, professional auditions, and careers in theatre, music, film, education, and the arts. For others still, it offers a meaningful place to return to their voice, their craft, and the creative work that continues to matter to them.
A Place to Be Challenged, Uplifted, and Inspired
Great training should never strip away individuality. It should help artists become more fully themselves.
The Singer’s Theatre is committed to creating a space where students and performers feel seen, respected, and challenged in equal measure. We believe that confidence grows when artists are given responsibility, encouragement, and clear expectations. We believe that excellence and kindness can exist in the same rehearsal room. We believe that performers do their best work when they feel safe enough to be brave.
Our programs welcome a wide range of experience levels, backgrounds, and artistic goals. Some students come to us with years of training. Others arrive simply because they love to sing, act, move, imagine, and create. Wherever they begin, we meet them with care, structure, and belief in their potential.
A Proven Launching Ground for Emerging Artists
Since 2002, The Singer’s Theatre has helped develop artists who have gone on to perform on major stages across Canada and beyond, including The Stratford Festival, The Charlottetown Festival, Broadway, and national tours. Others have carried their training into community theatre, education, leadership, and lifelong involvement in the arts.
That range of outcomes is important to us. Success does not look the same for every artist.
For some, success means a professional career. For others, it means greater confidence, stronger communication skills, deeper self-expression, or a lasting connection to the theatre community. The Singer’s Theatre is proud to support all of those paths.
More Than a Program. A Creative Community.
The Singer’s Theatre is more than a place to take a class or perform in a show. It is a community built around mentorship, ensemble values, artistic growth, and fearless performance.
We are proud to support the next generation of singers, actors, designers, technicians, and theatre-makers in Waterloo Region and beyond. Through music theatre training, voice development, performance intensives, Linklater Voice work, private coaching, and inclusive creative practice, we help artists build the skills, confidence, and sense of belonging they need to move forward.
Whether you are looking for a youth musical theatre program, a summer theatre intensive, private voice lessons, Linklater Voice training, audition preparation, or a creative space where artists are encouraged to grow, The Singer’s Theatre offers something rare: professional-calibre training with heart.
Empowering Fearless Performance
At The Singer’s Theatre, we do not simply teach artists how to perform.
We help them discover their voice, trust their instincts, strengthen their craft, and step more fully into who they are.
That is the difference.
